Call for Entry!

Fortify : A Fort Hayes Arts Alumni Exhibition

November 15 – December 18, 2010 Shot Tower Gallery

Call for Artwork

In cooperation with the Shot Tower Gallery, Fort Hayes Metro Education Center, Fort Hayes Visual Arts Career program, and a select group of Alumni, we are proud to announce the Annual Fort Hayes Alumni Exhibition. The Fort Hayes Arts Alumni Exhibition Committee is seeking graduates of Fort Hayes high school and/or career center since the school’s inception to submit artwork for consideration for the 2010 art exhibition in the Shot Tower Gallery. A jury comprised of alumni Natalie Bailey, Jacquie Mahan, and Julie Taggart will review submissions and choose the artwork for exhibition.

Natalie Bailey is a 1993 graduate of Fort Hayes MEC and the Fine Arts program. She earned her BA in Art History from Ohio Wesleyan University and an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. For the last 6 years, she has been an assistant professor of Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar in Doha, Qatar. Interested in contemporary art and design, especially that of the Middle East, she has curated exhibitions in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. She has also served as a guest juror for several Qatari exhibitions and for the Omani Society for Fine Arts. A recent transplant to Chicago, Natalie is glad to be back in the Midwest and reconnected with her alma mater, Fort Hayes.

Jacquie Mahan graduated from Upper Arlington High School and the Fort Hayes Commercial Photography program in 1999. Next, she headed to Boston where she received her BFA in Photography from the Art Institute of Boston. Upon graduation, Jacquie headed back home to Columbus where she opened the Mahan Gallery in 2003. Jacquie's interest in art gallery operations formed at an early age, and she's channeled her passion to quickly grow the Mahan Gallery into the award-winning destination it has become. She is an active member of the community, serving on a number of arts boards and charitable organizations. She resides in German Village with her spouse, Adam, and their two sons, Donovan and Lincoln.

Julie Taggart graduated from the Fort Hayes Commercial Art program in 1987. Hans Rietenbach, who taught in the program at the time, encouraged her to apply to the Columbus College of Art & Design. Julie has a BFA from CCAD and an MFA from Syracuse University. Her work has been included in exhibits nationally and internationally. She is represented by the Rebecca Ibel Gallery. Julie is professor, and Dean of Fine Arts and Foundation Studies at CCAD where now works with Han’s son Tim Rietenbach.
